What is shame? I love this quote from Paul Young.
Shame will destroy your ability to distinguish between a value statement and an observation. Guilt is, I’ve done something wrong. Shame is, I am something wrong. Guilt is legit. Shame is not. However, if you begin with a theology that tells you that you are something wrong, good luck dealing with shame. Paul Young
This is what happens when you see people through your own hurt and pain. You hear them through your own woundedness, your own filter. The footprints that are on your heart. “âqôḇ” Jeremiah 17:9
If you’re walking in shame it’s very difficult to see yourself the way Jesus sees you and it’s very difficult to see people the way Jesus sees them. It is difficult to forgive.
Someone says one thing to you and you take it to mean something else. It is a form of judgment. Could be a friend an acquaintance or a stranger.
I think it all comes back to the simple statement. You are letting what happened or what was said matter more than what Jesus says about you or the situation.
Colossians 1:27 (ESV) 27 To them God chose to make known how great among the Gentiles are the riches of the glory of this mystery, which is Christ in you, the hope of glory.
Invite Jesus into your Darkness. What does he say about you?
Who do you say I am?
