Could you imagine arriving at your destination and seeing 5000 men plus women and children and all you had was five loaves of bread and two fish to feed them. We don’t know for sure but you know if there was a wife for every man and two children that could be over 20,000 people to feed. The temptation would be to think how am I going to feed 20,000 people with five loaves of bread and two fish?
At this moment Jesus chose. He made his move.
Mark 6:41 (ESV Strong’s)
41 And taking the five loaves and the two fish, he looked up to heaven and said a blessing and broke the loaves and gave them to the disciples to set before the people. And he divided the two fish among them all.
g0308. ἀναβλέπω anablepō; from 303 and 991; to look up; by implication, to recover sight: — look (up), see, receive sight.
The phrase looked up to heaven means to recover sight in the greek. Thus is the same phrase in Luke 4:18
when he says he will recover sight to the blind. In other words when Jesus saw the 5000, instead of having a freak out and wondering how am I going to feed these 5,000 he recovered his sight, he looked up to heaven. He looked to God to recover his sight and to see the situation from God’s perspective. Once His sight was recovered he prayed a blessing over the fish and bread which resulted in thousands being fed.
