Never saw this before

John 18:11 (ESV) 11 So Jesus said to Peter, “Put your sword into its sheath; shall I not drink the cup that the Father has given me?”

What does the word cup mean in the Greek?

Strong’s Number: G4221

Greek Base Word: ποτήριον. 1. A cup, a drinking vessel.
2. Metaphorically one’s lot or experience, whether joyous or adverse, divine appointments, whether favorable or unfavorable, are likened to a cup which God presents one to drink: so of prosperity and adversity.

What if the wording was changed just a little bit where the word cup was changed to Divine appointment?

John 18:11 (ESV) 11 So Jesus said to Peter, “Put your sword into its sheath; shall I not participate in the Divine appointment that the Father has given me?”

I wonder how many divine appointments have been set before me and I chose to look the other way, or I chose not to participate?

I’m grateful that Jesus chose to participate in the Divine appointment that the father gave him

And then there is this passage.

Luke 22:42 (ESV) 42 saying, “Father, if you are willing, remove this cup from me. Nevertheless, not my will, but yours, be done.”

What if it was translated this way……

Luke 22:42 (ESV) 42 saying, “Father, if you are willing, take this Divine appointment away from me. Nevertheless, not my will, but yours, be done.”

Define appointments are from the Lord, and they are powerful. I believe They are the will of the Father

Jesus knew exactly what he was going to do and what the will of the father was.
