Picture this, Jesus is on the cross. The Centurion Soldier stabs him in the side with the spear. If I remember correctly, sometime after that is when Jesus gave up his last breath and said it is finished. But before that said this.
Luke 23:34 And Jesus said, “Father, forgive them, for they know not what they do.” And they cast lots to divide his garments.
Was the soldier forgiven? I believe so. I tell you what I don’t believe, I don’t believe the soldier is in hell the religious interpretation of hell anyway. I believe there was a point where he actually found peace, realized what he had done and what the actual truth is.
It is my belief that when the soldier stabbed Jesus he entered into his own personal hell and then he found peace
Luke 23:47 (ESV) 47 Now when the centurion saw what had taken place, he praised God, saying, “Certainly this man was innocent!”
Luke 23.34 1[Jesus uttered, Father forgive them, for they do not understand what they are doing!] 2And dividing his garments they cast lots to determine who gets which part of it.
([1] 1This sentence, included in brackets, was incorporated relatively early by copyists. It is of authentic origin [B. Metzger].
[2] 2See Psalm 22:18 David prophesies the crucifixion by the Spirit of Christ within him, 1000 years before it happens. See 1 Peter 1:10,11…
1 Peter 1:11 They knew with certainty that it was the spirit of Christ within them, pointing prophetically and giving testimony to the sufferings of the Christ and the subsequent glory.
See John 19:23,24, The soldiers who crucified Jesus took his outer garments and divided it between the four of them; the inner garment was a seamless woven tunic. [The four pieces of the outer garment would be the head gear, the sandals, the girdle, the tallith which was the outer garment with fringes.] They therefore discussed between themselves to rather not tear the inner garment but to cast lots for it to determine whose it shall be. This was the fulfillment of prophetic Scripture, They divided my outer garments among them and for my inner garment they cast lots. These very things predicted by David in Psalm 22:18, the soldiers unwittingly performed.)
