Shame

What is shame? I heard a statement from Paul Young while listing to his testimony. His testimony is on YouTube and it is so powerful I never realized that the book The Shack was about his story.

Paul Young is the author of The Shack.

Shame will destroy your ability to distinguish between a value statement and an observation. Guilt is, I’ve done something wrong. Shame is, I am something wrong. Guilt is legit, shame is not, but if you begin with a theology that tells you that you are something wrong, good luck dealing with shame. Paul Young

Someone says one thing to you and you take it to mean something else. It is a form of judgment. Could be a friend an acquaintance or a stranger.

I think it all comes back to the simple statement. You are letting what happened or what was said matter more than what Jesus says about you or the situation.

Colossians 1:27 (ESV) 27 To them God chose to make known how great among the Gentiles are the riches of the glory of this mystery, which is Christ in you, the hope of glory.
