Expectations

Jeremiah 29:11
– For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the LORD, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end.

I read this and it makes me think about expectations. Expectations that I may put on somebody expectations that maybe I put on the Lord for my life.

I believe there are for the most part some healthy expectations. I put gas in my car I expect it to start and run. I lock my front door I expect it to keep the bad guys out. Some of us have our spouse pay the bills if that’s the case then you expect them to be paid on time. Those are healthy but then there are the unhealthy expectations that you put on people maybe even judgments. When I expect someone to do something a certain way without conveying to them how I want it done. I am setting myself up for a fall.

And then there are the expectations that you may put on the Lord. maybe when you pray, you expect things to happen a certain way. And if you did you could be setting yourself up for a fall.

There are many times that we put expectations on people and we don’t even realize we’re doing it

  1. Good word Kee. There are times we put expectations on people that even when we tell them what we expect, they cannot or refuse to meet them. That’s when you have to face the part of you inner man that thinks he has some sort of control over other people and even much less, his own life.
