Understanding Jesus’ Presence in Difficult Times

Hebrews 13:5. Keep your life free from love of money, and be content with what you have, for he has said, “I will never leave you nor forsake you.”

You get in an argument, Jesus is right there with you. The driver cuts you off, causing you to swerve and nearly crash. You feel angry at the other  driver. Jesus is there. You get betrayed by someone very close to you. It’s like a knife through your heart. Yet, Jesus is right there with you.

You know he’s there. You even see him but you keep him at arm’s length because of the shame that you’re walking in. Do you relate to what I’m saying? Do you picture the last time you knew Jesus was beside you and yet you pushed him away?Below is a short testimony from the movie. The heart of a man. The pastor is actually given his testimony and this is part of it. I changed a little bit of it so you actually read it from your own point of view. Hope that makes sense.

Picture yourself in prison and you’re sitting at the table all alone eating. In comes Jesus wearing prison clothes like you. He walks up and sits down with you and he just stares at you. You asked him, would you eat another meal with me? He said, “I will eat with you anytime you want. By the way, the doors open. You can leave anytime you want.” When I choose to run from him into the darkness. He is with me in that moment. He’s not angry and his facial expression is fixed on mine, and He is loving me. He wasn’t demanding that I stop! He was demanding that I invite him into that moment. He wanted to help me understand how I got into that moment. He sought to uncover what’s beneath that moment. He was there to help me search for what I’m really searching for. From the movie The Heart Of Man. A testimony

When you’ve been betrayed, you are walking in unforgiveness. Jesus is right there beside you in that moment. He is waiting for you to invite Him into that situation. He wants to lead you into some healing.

Hebrews 5.8 Although he was a son, he learned obedience through what he suffered. 9 And being made perfect, he became the source of eternal salvation to all who obey him, (ESV)

Jesus is yes and amen.

I wonder how many times I don’t invite Jesus into the situation I’m walking in. Even though I know he’s beside me I don’t invite him. This little testimony really has enlightened me on what I need to do moving ahead.

John 14:20-21 In that day you will know that I am in my Father, and you in me, and I in you. 21 Whoever has my commandments and keeps them, he it is who loves me. And he who loves me will be loved by my Father, and I will love him and manifest myself to him.” (ESV)
