I heard this quote the other day be curious not judgmental Walt Whitman.
Think about that for a moment next time you want to be judgmental maybe you do just need to be curious wonder what’s going on? Wonder what has happened?
I have an example right now I have a subcontractor who I hired to do a job for me. I reached out to him Thursday just to make sure what time he was going to be at my job Friday. I called him four times Thursday texted him four times Thursday emailed him twice to both of his email addresses. Not a peep. My mind starts to wonder and I start deciding why he’s not talking to me. Now I’m being judgmental. He’s a no-show on Friday, I called him five times Friday, I called him three times Saturday. I called him twice Sunday. Texted him and emailed as well. No answer. I’m not mad, I do not know what’s going on or what has happened.
I decided midday Friday that I was not going to decide what he was doing and just let the chips fall where they may. I have found another sub that’s going to do his job on Monday. I honestly don’t know if he’s alive or dead or in the hospital somewhere on life support. I don’t know. I can only hope for the best and hope that he is okay. This is totally out of his character.
I had to make a decision Friday to either decide on my own the reasons that he wasn’t answering my calls or just be curious and wonder and hope there’s nothing wrong.
Here’s what I know, if I completely decide on my own, without knowing the facts. Deciding on my own the reason or reasons he is not returning my calls. I will absolutely drive myself into a funk. And become so negative and start having so much negative self-talk that I could actually make myself sick.
Be curious not judgmental. Love you neighbor as yourself. If Jesus is not judging then neither shall I
John 12:47 (ESV) 47 If anyone hears my words and does not keep them, I do not judge him; for I did not come to judge the world but to save the world.
