What do you do when you’re caught in the middle when it comes to relationships?
When Bob tells you I don’t want you talking to Mark anymore he’s got issues. And then Mark says I don’t want you talking to Bob anymore he’s a liar. And you’re caught in the middle.
It’s obvious to you that the two sides have contempt for each other and now I have to be the mediator? Not sure that is my job.
What do you do when two people have hatred and unforgiveness toward each other and are looking to you for the answers?
Philippians 4.5 This kind of joy empowers you to show perfect 1courtesy towards all people. The Lord is not nearer to some than what he is to others. (The word, 1epieikes, from epi, indicating continuous influence upon, and eikos, reasonable, courteous. This is exactly Paul’s attitude towards the idol worshipping Greek philosophers in Acts 17:27,28. See also Titus 3:3. Your joy makes the gospel visible and irresistible. Every definition of distance is canceled, as well as every excuse to feel miserable and neglected.)
Philippians 4.6 Let no anxiety about anything 1distract you. Rather translate moments into prayerful worship, and soak your requests in gratitude before God. (The word 1merimnao, anxiety, through the idea of distraction, from meritzo, to divide. Your requests do not surprise God; he knows your thoughts from afar and is acquainted with all your ways; yet he delights in your conversation and childlike trust. Song of Songs 2:14; Matthew 6:8.). When I was asking myself these questions what would I do this passage out of Philippians is what came to me. I think of many cases all you can do is ask questions. Plenty of what questions and how questions. You certainly can’t tell them what to do because that’s what they’re telling you.
Jesus said love your neighbor as yourself. I would submit that both parties are very wounded and it goes deeper than what they think.
Stop trying to fix the other person and focus on yourself.
