I’ve been reading a book called killing Kryptonite by John bevere. It’s been a difficult read until today. Now it’s starting to make sense.
Pro 7:24 – 27
And now, O sons, listen to me,
and be attentive to the words of my mouth.
25 Let not your heart turn aside to her ways;
do not stray into her paths,
26 for many a victim has she laid low,
and all her slain are a mighty throng.
27 Her house is the way to Sheol,
going down to the chambers of death.
When you insert the words “the world” in place of “her” and “she” the scripture takes on a whole new meaning. It’s almost like a hidden deeper message.
So listen to me, My sons, and pay attention to My words. Don’t let your hearts stray away toward the world. Don’t wander down the world’s wayward path. For the world has been the ruin of many; many men have been the world’s victims. The world’s house is the road to the grave. The world’s bedroom is the den of death” Proverbs 7:24–27,
All this is really got me to thinking about what it says in James
James 4:4
You adulterous people! Do you not know that friendship with the world is enmity with God? Therefore whoever wishes to be a friend of the world makes himself an enemy of God.
I guess the bigger question is in your life where are you friends with the world?
Jesus lays it out in 1st John 2:16 for the world offers only a craving for physical pleasure, a craving for everything else we see, and pride in our achievements and possessions. These are not from the father, but are from this world.
I would like to think that I don’t have any idolatry in my life but after reading this morning. Honestly it’s really got me squirming in my seat.
The last thing I want, is to have the look at me, look at what I have, look at what I did, look at my Ministry………. syndrome.
