Balance or rhythm?

I heard a message today and the question was posed. Do you have balance in your life or do you have rhythm? For years I have prayed for balance in my life but today that changes. From now on I will be praying for rhythm. Let me give you a picture of balance versus rhythm.  Picture for moment the man on stage spinning the plates.  He’s running around crazy spinning the plates.   the plates have the easy job they’re just spinning.  But he is out of balance he’s running back and forth keeping the plates spinning. It is impossible for him to keep the pace up. He will eventually be forced to stop because of fatigue and the plates will crash and burn.   If he has rhythm he will do his job for a certain amount of time and then he will stop and rest and then start up again. The plates will not crash and break.

The rest I am referring to could be a physical rest and or it could be resting in him. My last post two men spoke to me about rest and that is what I have done this week. I didn’t go on Quest. I have barely worked. I have not looked at my business laptop. I really do feel rested, rejuvenated and Monday I will be ready to get after it once again.  I feel recharged.

What does Rhythm look like for me? For me it’s having healthy boundaries. Picking and choosing when I take business calls. I don’t take business calls before 8 or after 5 Monday through Friday there are certain jobs that I will not look at. There’s certain areas where I will not travel to. I choose to keep my company at a certain size. I choose to not have more than 3 jobs going at once. I try to not work on Saturday and I do not work on estimates or anything on Sunday. That’s me, what does it look like for you to be in rhythm?

I find it awesome that I listened to this message this morning and then open my email to my Devo and it’s touches on the exact same thing.

Regardless of confusion and chaos take the time to establish yourself in peace.  I’m not talking about worldly peace; I am talking about the peace that only comes through Me, says the Lord. It is a peace that is beyond thought or understanding and only comes by the Spirit.  Be still.

Philippians 4:7 and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.

The sermon ended with “what would it take for you to choose to deal with the stress in your life.”

If you don’t rest in him at regular intervals, then you will be forced to choose to deal with the stress in your life. It will manifest in many ways, sleepless nights, fighting with your spouse or the big one…… heart attack, stress-related illness you know what I’m talking about.

Jesus says come to me all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.  Matt.11:28-30

So, the question is, are you resting?

  1. Rest… yes. Thank you Jesus for who you are and how you speak to us at just the right times and in just the right ways. A love affair I don’t want to be away from. Your grace is enough and your love is overwhelming in a way that I wonder where your limits can be with me.. you just keep going
