g0863. ἀφίημι aphiēmi; from 575 and ἵημι hiēmi (to send; an intensive form of εἶμι eimi, to go); to send forth, in various applications
To send away is one of the many things that it says for the definition of forgive in the Strong’s concordance. There is so much to the word forgiveness in the Strong’s I didn’t want to list it all.
Jesus said if you forgive the sins of any, they are forgiven them; if you retain the sins of any, they are retained John 20:23
There are only two ways to respond to an offense and Jesus said this, not me. you either hold on to them or you send them away. It’s very cut and dry if you choose to hold on to the offense and not forgive that is rooted in vengeance. That person owes me and until they pay me back or tell me that I’m sorry. I’m going to hold on to this as long as I can.
Now if you’ve taken this into your own hands. You’re in control or you think you are in control. This is a very slippery slope because scripture is very clear.
Rom 12:19 — Rom 12:21
Beloved, never avenge yourselves, but leave it to the wrath of God, for it is written, “Vengeance is mine, I will repay, says the Lord.”
Get out of the God’s way. You’re only hurting yourself.
20 To the contrary, “if your enemy is hungry, feed him; if he is thirsty, give him something to drink; for by so doing you will heap burning coals on his head.”
I’m not going to say it is easy because it’s not, but when you make the decision to love someone the way God loves you, to see them the way God sees you, that’s when the healing in your heart begins. Doesn’t have anything to do with the other person.
21 Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.
You have to send it away don’t be overcome. The longer you hold on to the offense the more jacked up you will be. The only person who’s getting punished by the unforgiveness is you.
I think if the word unforgiveness was in the Strong’s concordance. I think you would only have three words that would define it.
Cancer. Death. Separation.
Choose wisely choose life.
